Middle-Mouse Pinging"},"content":{"rendered":"<article id=\"post-1052\" class=\"clearfix post-1052 post type-post status-publish format-standard hentry category-terminology\">\n<div class=\"clearfix post-1052 post type-post status-publish format-standard hentry category-terminology\" role=\"article\">\n<div class=\"post_content\">\n<p>Pinging refers to the displaying and highlighting of an\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.sisus.co\/power-inspector\/terminology\/unity-object\/\">Unity Object<\/a><\/strong> either in the hierarchy of project view. This occurs for example when you click an Object reference field.<\/p>\n<p>In Power Inspector you can also ping Objects by <strong>middle-clicking<\/strong> headers of\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.sisus.co\/power-inspector\/enhanced-drawers\/unity-object-drawer\/\">Unity Object drawers<\/a><\/strong> inside the inspector view. What Object gets pinged and in which view depends on the context:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Middle-clicking the header of an <strong>asset<\/strong> causes the <strong>asset<\/strong> to be pinged in the project view.<\/li>\n<li>Middle-clicking the header of a <strong>MonoBehaviour<\/strong> causes the <strong>MonoScript<\/strong> asset that defines it to be pinged in the project view.<\/li>\n<li>Middle-clicking the header of a <strong>prefab instance<\/strong> causes the <strong>prefab asset<\/strong> to be pinged in the project view.<\/li>\n<li>Middle-clicking the header of a <strong>GameObject<\/strong> that is not a prefab or a instance causes the <strong>GameObject<\/strong> to be pinged in the hierarchy view.<\/li>\n<li>Middle-clicking the header of a <strong>component<\/strong> that belongs to a <strong>prefab<\/strong> causes the <strong>prefab asset<\/strong> to be pinged in the project view.<\/li>\n<li>Middle-clicking the header of a <strong>component<\/strong> that belongs to a <strong>GameObject<\/strong> that is not a prefab causes the <strong>GameObject<\/strong> to be pinged in the hierarchy view. This is also true for components on prefab instances.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In addition to Unity Object drawer headers there some other elements that support middle-clicked pinging:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Middle-click the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.sisus.co\/power-inspector\/terminology\/preview-area\/\">preview area <\/a><\/strong>causes the <strong>previewed target<\/strong> to be pinged.<\/li>\n<li>Middle-clicking the <strong>header of preview<\/strong> in the preview area causes the <strong>target of the preview<\/strong> to be pinged.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Note<\/strong>: As a rule of thumb middle-clicking elements <strong>inside<\/strong> the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.sisus.co\/power-inspector\/terminology\/inspector-view\/\">inspector view<\/a><\/strong> is used for <strong>pinging<\/strong> while middle-clicking elements <strong>outside<\/strong> the inspector view is used for <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.sisus.co\/power-inspector\/terminology\/peeking\/\"><strong>peeking<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pinging refers to the displaying and highlighting of an\u00a0Unity Object either in the hierarchy of project view.
